Who Am I?

I’m Jennifer Hylwa—though many folks call me Sage—a filmmaker, photographer, and creative producer based in the Pacific Northwest. My work centers on intentional storytelling, music, and human connection, creating visuals that feel honest, present, and emotionally grounded.

After years working across live music, documentary-style video, and visual storytelling, I was drawn toward slower, more deliberate creative work—projects that prioritize presence and emotional truth over polish or performance. I focus on capturing people as they are: artists in process, in transition, and in moments of genuine expression.

Whether creating visual branding, filming performances, or developing long-form stories, my approach is grounded in trust, observation, and restraint. I see my role as extending beyond production—acting as a collaborator and steward of story, listening first and shaping work that reflects the depth and humanity of the people and brands behind it.

My Philosophy

I approach every project with care, curiosity, and deep respect for the people at the center of the story. I’m less interested in forcing a narrative or following trends, and more focused on creating work that feels honest, lived-in, and true to the person or brand being documented.

I believe the strongest visuals come from depth rather than spectacle. My process is collaborative and intentional, built on trust, listening, and allowing ideas the time and space to develop naturally. I take time to understand not just what is being created, but why it exists in the first place.

Because of this, my work tends to feel grounded and human—images and films that hold context, emotion, and continuity rather than chasing a single, isolated moment. I pay close attention to pacing, environment, and energy, creating room for moments that can’t be rushed or manufactured.

At its core, my philosophy is simple: move deliberately, listen closely, and create work that is meant to be felt as much as it is seen.
